SISTA CIRCLE: BLACK WOMEN IN TECH IS A SOLIDARITY GROUP DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING THE WORK OF BLACK WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY (BWiT) INDUSTRY FROM ACROSS THE DIASPORA.
Established in April 2017, Sista Circle: BWiT is rooted in the deep history of fellowship communities of Black women in the United States. These groups are a part of the foundation of Black American culture, especially during the Civil Rights Movement, and provided safe spaces for Black women to discuss and organize around issues facing their communities. Sista Circle: BWiT draws inspiration from these groups using technology and social media to create connections with Black women on a global scale. Sista Circle: BWiT has three main goals:
1) To build a strong network, safe space and solidarity for Black women professionals to grow and learn from each other professionally
2) To partner with organizations to further the recruitment and healthy retention of Black women professionals
3) To create lasting sustainable relationships with other Black entrepreneurs and Black owned businesses.

IN A 2019 STUDY FROM THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR WOMEN AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (NWIT), THE NUMBER OF COMPUTING PROFESSIONS HAS REMAINED RELATIVELY STAGNANT
AT 25 PERCENT SINCE 2007.
THE PERCENTAGE OF BLACK WOMEN IN COMPUTING PROFESSIONS HAS STEADIED AT 3 PERCENT SINCE 2017 DESPITE EFFORTS IN DIVERSITY RECRUITMENT.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? THERE IS A LACK OF RETENTION AND SUPPORT FOR BLACK WOMEN OCCUPYING THE TECH SPACE AND WE WANT TO CHANGE THAT.
